February 17, Crude goes down as the gas goes up

A few months ago we were paying as much as $4/gallon because crude was over $100 per barrel. We were told this was because of demand, pipeline problems, over-eager speculators, etc. But now we're told that gas is less than $2 because it's being bought from "West Texas" who is selling their oil cheaper than much inferior grades of oil from around the world. So I wonder, why weren't we buying the bargain oil from the beginning?
