September 23 - The internet's great and all, but it needs more government!

Julius Genachowski is the new chairman of the Federal Communications Commission. He gave a speech in which he rightly stated that, "...we can't imagine what our lives would be like without the Internet." and likens it to light bulbs and running water.  However his speech took a sharp turn towards what patriots fear most...more government. Genachowski believes it is the job of the FCC to provide access and not the market.

On top of that, it has come to light that the Obama administration has been spying on American citizens. According to a Washington Times article, they have been, "...collecting and storing comments and videos placed on its social-networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube without notifying or asking consent of the site users...:"

We know that the Bush administration abused the privacy of citizens; why should we give a pass to the candidate who promised transparent government?

August 5 - H1N1 Flu and You (it seriously says that)

H1N1 (swine) flu is the new kid in town...or is it?

"In 1976, the White House urged that everyone get a vaccine when swine flu threatened the nation. More than 40 million people were inoculated; about 25 people died from the vaccine. The flu epidemic never materialized in the US."

First it was bird flu (haven't heard about that one lately) now it's swine flu, then it will be some other flu. Doesn't it just seem like the government keeps trying to throw us into a panic? All anyone has to do is do what your mother told you to do:

- Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze
- Wash your hands
- Don't hang around sick people
- Stay at home if you are sick

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is my proposed health care plan for America.

Thank you, and good night!

August 1 - Paging Dr. Government

Because the government knows what is best for you and your family, they are set to vote on a 1,000+ page health care bill that will make health insurance mandatory and crappy.

Highlights include:

- Health care rationing
- Your health care benefits will be chosen for you
- Government will have direct access to your bank accounts for electronic funds transfer
- Higher taxes
- Regulations of how much doctors can own
- Restrictions on how big a hospital can be
- Government approved list of end-of-life treatment
- Government will build registries to track you with your medical records
- Doctors in residency will be told where they will live
- Required vaccinations

Many people are against this bill because of how much it costs ($15 Trillion over 10 years) but I believe are missing the bigger point which is: Where in the U.S. Constitution does it authorize government to involve itself in doctor-patient relationships?

August 21 - You mean Obama lied to us?!?!?

"The Obama administration expects the federal deficit over the next decade to be $2 Trillion bigger than previously estimated."

"...cumulative 2010 - 2019 deficit of $9 Trillion instead of the $7 Trillion previously estimated." Because, as we all know, $7 Trillion is so much better than $9 Trillion!

"...the higher number will...create political difficulties for...Obama." Isn't it just so sad how difficult it must be for Obama to spend $2 TRILLION more than he said. Poor guy...

"Even as [Obama] seeks higher revenues to pay for new climate change and health care measures...could face pressure to increase revenue or make deep spending cuts..." And history has proven that under the current two-party system, the government NEVER cuts spending.

"A companion effort could force him to break his promise to not raise taxes on individuals making less than $200,000 a year." Surprise!! Obama's a liar!! I bet you didn't see that coming!

August 13 - "Daddy, can we go to the park?" "No son, that's where all the bad guys are."

Attention murderers, rapists, thieves, and generally anyone else who wants to vitimize the public: your next easy target is waiting for you at Maryville and Alcoa City parks! That's right, the Maryville and Alcoa city councils have given you a green-light to patrol these areas so you can more easily find your next victim. By voting to ban guns in parks, you no longer need to worry about citizens fighting back. And you think the police will get you? Please, you'll be long gone before the police even know about what you've done.

So the next time you're shooting a guy in the chest or taking that lady's purse, be sure to send a "Thank You" note to the Maryville and Alcoa city councils. Because, after all, they're on your side!

August 21 - Sir, did you register that old t-shirt?

A favorite pasttime of bargain-hunters, and a darn good way of cleaning out that basement, is yard sales. But I wonder if they would be more fun with federal regulation? Wonder no more! Garage sales have become the latest target in the federal government's plan to regulate and control society. Think you can escape the long arm of the feds by just donating that used toaster? Think again. According to the article, "The crackdown affects sellers...such as Goodwill and the Salvation Army."
I can see it now, there will be a new department called the "Garage and Yard Sale Security Department" that roams the streets looking for those who foolishly want to recycle their used items.

What's the best thing for a recession? Make employers pay more!!

Every time minimum wage is increased, unemployment is increased. It's just basic economics. The more you pay for something, the less you buy. Why is it that people think businesses don't follow this rule? Whenever the government gets involved with the economy, bad things happen...guaranteed.

July 23 - New Jersey cleans house the easy way

New Jersey? But how does that affect us here in Blount County?
Well friends at the June county commission meeting, 10 out of 21 commissioners had to read a "conflict of interest" statement before voting on the budget. In addition to that they just disbanded the ethics commission.

You think they have your best interests in mind? Think again. I would not doubt that the Blount County government would give New Jersey a run for its money.

July 10 - Thanks for all the information, suckers!

"The Bush administration authorized secret surveillance activities that still have not been made public...It's unclear how much valuable intelligence was yielded..intelligence agencies' continued retention and use of the information collected under the program should be carefully monitored."

So they're still listening to you, they're just going to make sure that it's monitored.

July 2009 - Aren't all crimes hate crimes?

In an effort to "protect" us, Congress has made it illegal to say anything that would cause someone else to commit a crime. That's right folks, you are now responsible for strangers doing illegal things. This legislation even applies to preachers who read anti-homosexual scriptures written in the Bible.

I think I read somewhere something about free speech...maybe that was just a dream.
