We haven't had our show yet and I would normally wait to post this. However since our show has been postponed, I'll ease the excitement.

February 2 - While we're on the topic of cell phones...

It seems the Blount County Sheriff's office doesn't trust parents to get involved in their children's lives. So after spending $1.2 million on installing School Resource Officers (SROs) in all the schools which are supposed to help deter crimes in schools, the sheriff's office wants to spend more on a program that would allow students to text them tips about things going on at their schools.

One student, who is for this program, was quoted as saying, "We have a lot of drug use going on...A lot of students are really concerned about other students home lives. And that's helpful too, because you don't want to get parents involved."

Not having parents involved in the first place is what leads to poor actions and decisions by school kids. It is not the government's job to raise your children. Period.

February 11 - Because the government should always know where you are

In yet another shocking announcement, the Obama administration has told cell phone users that they have no, "...reasonable expectation of privacy." while carrying and using their cell phones.

Let's do the math: Americans' rights are protected by the Bill of Rights. This states that, "The right of the people to be secure in their persons...shall not be violated." Now the government wants to track you and listen to you when carrying or using a cell phone. So, I guess this means that if you carry a cell phone, you're not an American?

February 21 - With a gun gun here and a gun gun there

"The number of Tennesseeans licensed by the state to go armed increased by nearly 51,000 people last year to 268,711."

This is the anti-Second Amendment crowd's biggest nightmare. I'm sure we'll hear cries that guns are evil and should only be possessed by the government. Yet despite the constant attacks on our right to defend our lives as we see fit, people seem to be arming themselves and thus taking on some responsibility for their own lives (imagine that!)

Now just think how many more people own guns that don't feel they need to "rent their rights" from the government!!

February 10 - Tragic shooting in Knoxville

Inskip Elementary in Knoxville was struck with tradedy earlier this month. It seems a fourth grade teacher was going to be fired and decided to take it out on his fellow employees. Some would say this is a sign we should take everyone's guns away. Some would say this means everyone should have a gun. What do you think?

February 2 - The government is now officially larger than the country

The federal payroll will reach 2.15 million employees in 2010. The private sector will have 1.43 million. More power to the government equals less power to American citizens. Is this the legacy you want to leave to your children?

January 20 - The Earth will end in 20 years!!! No, wait, I meant 300 years!!

"Five glaring errors are in a 2007 report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. All the mistakes appear in a subsection that suggests glaciers in the Himalayas could melt away by the year 2035." However in the report the numbers were transposed and it should have read 2350.

"The incident follows a furor late last year over the release of stolen e-mails in which climate scientists talked about suppressing data and freezing out skeptics of global warming."

"The credibility of the IPCC depends on the thoroughness with which its procedures are adhered to."

Don't you think that we should verify this stuff before we start passing legislation that restricts the free market and reduces our standard of living? But then, that would be too common sense for government.

January 14th - What's in a name?

It seems that not only can the government look through your clothes and read your mind, but now they can hold you because of your name! "At some point, Michael Hicks made the Department of Homeland Security suspicious." And so when someone else with the same name tried to pass through security, they jumped on him, patted him down...even though he was 2 years old. Mikey is now 8 and this has happened to him the entire time.

So listen up terrorists - fill your shorts with bombs and you'll breeze right through security. But have the wrong name, and expect trouble!

January 8th - Who cares about privacy anymore?

In an effort to promote "security", the U.S. government is urging foreign countries to use full body scanners at airports. "[Homeland Security Secretary] Napolitano said the Department of Homeland Security will encourage foreign authorities to all use the same new technologies at airports that send flights to the United States...[and] will also partner with the Energy Department national laboratories to research new screening technologies."

So, if you want to maintain your privacy, drive, take a train, or just stay home!

January 8th - "The dream police, they live inside of my head"

When flying they can't stop you because of how you look - that would be racial profiling. However they can hear your thoughts! "The aim of one company that blends high technology and behavioral psychology is hinted at in its name, WeCU..." The idea is that it judges your reaction to particular images shown on a screen. Field testing could begin in 2011.

Jim Harper with the Cato Institute, a libertarian think tank, makes the point that if security was left up to the airlines, there would be a mix of security approaches, thus making it harder for terrorists to anticipate. Just like everything else, when the government gets involved, bad things happen.

January 27 - The State of the Union vs. Reality

A few days ago, Obama made his obligatory state of the union speech. As with most of these speeches given by presidents, it was full of new spending, new taxes, new government agencies, and the same old lies.

Here are some excerpts:
"...[Americans] don't understand why...bad behavior on Wall Street is rewarded but hard work on Main Street isn't..." I guess Mr. Obama thinks that somehow giving billions of dollars of taxpayer money to big banks and auto-makers is for Main Street.

"...if there's one thing that has unified Democrats and Republicans, it's that we hated the bank bailout." Which is exactly why they passed it and have kept the deceit that it is working?

"And in the last year, hundreds of Al Qaeda's fighters and affiliates...have been captured or killed..." Wow! This guy deserves a Nobel Peace Prize!!!
